Resilient Families, Safer Workplaces & Communities One-Day Practical Skills Workshop

In South Africa, families and teams across every industry; from factories, offices and schools to clinics, retail, NGOs and community settings, carry real pressures that can ripple into stress, conflict and increased risks for children and teens.

This warm, hopeful and emotionally safe one-day workshop gives you practical, immediately usable skills to notice early warning signs, step up safely, respond with care when someone discloses, stay steady under pressure, and build protective norms that truly make a difference.

Rooted in South African stories and the spirit of ubuntu, you will leave with clear tools, renewed confidence, a personal action plan and your Certificate of Attendance, plus a full professional resource pack emailed directly to you. No workbooks to print. Just real skills that protect children and strengthen the families and teams around you.

One powerful day. Lasting impact for the people who matter most.

Session 1: Seeing Clearly – Recognising Early Signs of GBV, Bullying, Coercive Control & Family Stress Spillover

Sharpen your ability to notice early, often subtle warning signs across homes, workplaces and communities. Through powerful South African stories and interactive pair work, you will understand how everyday pressures can spill over and affect children and discover the quiet power of early, caring noticing in the spirit of ubuntu. This foundational session builds awareness, hope and the confidence that one attentive person can change a child’s trajectory.

Session 2: Stepping Up Safely – The 5 D’s Upstander Framework

Learn five practical, safe options to step up when you notice something concerning. Explore the 5 D’s (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay and Direct), see how to choose the right approach for different real-life situations, and practise in realistic South African scenarios. Leave with a clear mental toolkit and the reassurance that you can act effectively while always putting safety first.

Session 3: Holding Space with Heart – Supportive Responses to Disclosure

When someone trusts you with something difficult, your response can open the door to help. Master the Listen & Believe approach, discover phrases that support and those that can unintentionally close doors, and learn how to offer warm, safe referrals. This session equips you to respond with genuine care while maintaining healthy boundaries for yourself and the other person.

Session 4: Standing Strong Together – Practical Resilience Tools for Self, Families & Teams

Strengthen your capacity to stay steady under pressure so you can show up better for your family, team and the children in your life. Practise simple centring techniques rooted in South African elder wisdom and gentle reframing tools that turn overwhelming thoughts into small, possible steps. Build personal and team practices that reduce stress spillover and model healthy ways of being.

Session 5: Building Our Village – Creating Protective Norms & Reducing Risks to Children & Teens

Explore how small, consistent protective norms in families and workplaces create stronger safety nets for children and teens. In small groups and personal reflection, identify realistic ways to strengthen connection, communication and collective responsibility in your own context, then create your personal Upstander Action Plan, a simple, doable commitment you can begin this week.

Session 6: Closing Integration & Celebration

Bring the full day’s learning together in a warm, hopeful close. Reflect on your growth, celebrate the commitments you have made, and complete a short post-training survey to see your progress. Receive your Certificate of Attendance and a full professional resource pack; including tools, phrase banks, action-plan templates and national support numbers, emailed directly to you. End with gratitude and the inspiring sense that you are now part of a growing community of Upstanders building resilient families and safer workplaces across South Africa.
