Workshop, eLearning, Academy; Choosing the Right Next Step for Your Bank

by | Sep 16, 2026 | 0 comments

By now, many HR, L&D, wellbeing and CSI leaders are past the “should we do something?” stage. The harder question is more practical: what is the right next step for our teams, our budget cycle, and the way our bank actually works?

There is no single correct answer. There is a clearer set of options. Impilo offers one partner and three practical pathways: a one-day workshop, eLearning that is available now, and an Academy pathway launching in November 2026. The useful work is matching the pathway to the problem you are trying to solve.

Start with the problem you want to solve

GBV and workplace harm are not abstract issues in South Africa. The Human Sciences Research Council’s first national GBV study found that 33.1% of women aged 18 and older have experienced physical violence in their lifetime, and 35.5% have experienced physical and/or sexual violence.

In banks, this often shows up as quieter operational risk: reduced focus, strained team dynamics, underused reporting channels, and skills that fade after a single awareness session.

Research on workplace bystander programmes is consistent on one point. Workshops that include practice exercises show greater potential for increasing prosocial bystander behaviour than passive information sessions. Leadership support and programmes tailored to the organisation also improve the chance that skills will be used.

That is why the next step should be chosen for fit, not fashion.

Pathway 1: The one-day workshop; test skills in a real team

Impilo’s one-day “Resilient Families, Safer Workplaces & Communities” workshop is the fastest way to put usable tools into a live team. It introduces the 5 D’s (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, Direct), supportive-response skills, and culturally grounded scenarios that sound like South African workplace life; branch counters, contact centres, hybrid meetings and management conversations.

Choose this pathway if you need:

  • a low-barrier pilot with one team, region or leadership cohort
  • shared language quickly, before a wider rollout
  • a practical test of whether the approach fits your culture

A workshop will not, on its own, embed skills across every branch. It can give you evidence, champions and a clearer brief for what should come next.

Pathway 2: eLearning; build consistency across sites and shifts

The GBV Banking Foundation eLearning is available now. It helps organisations give more people the same core capability without waiting for every team to be in the same room on the same day. That matters in banking, where work happens across branches, shifts, contact centres and hybrid roles.

A Skilled Bystander programme has also been produced. It is designed to deepen the practical intervention and support skills that teams need after the foundation layer.

Choose eLearning if you need:

  • consistent coverage across a large or dispersed workforce
  • a pathway that can follow a successful workshop pilot
  • a way to keep the 5 D’s and supportive-response skills available after the training day

eLearning works best when it is not treated as a tick-box module. Pair it with manager modelling, short team practice, and simple follow-up.

Pathway 3: Impilo Academy; a longer pathway from November

Impilo Academy launches in November 2026, together with a new website and application. It is designed as a structured, banking-contextualised, trauma-informed learning pathway for people from teller through to executive. It extends the current workshop and eLearning offer. It does not replace them.

Choose the Academy conversation if you are planning for:

  • scalable skills development beyond a single workshop or licence cycle
  • ongoing practice rather than a one-off event
  • a culturally grounded route for the South African banking workforce

September is the right time to request further information or join an early-interest list. The Academy is not live yet, and that distinction matters. Current teams can still book a workshop or request an eLearning demo now.

How to choose without overcomplicating it

A simple decision rule helps:

  • Need a first proof point in one team? Start with a workshop pilot.
  • Need consistent skills across many people and sites? Explore eLearning.
  • Planning a longer capability journey from November? Ask for Academy information and still use the workshop or eLearning as your near-term step.

Many organisations will use more than one pathway. A pilot workshop can inform an eLearning decision. eLearning can keep skills alive while the Academy pathway comes online. The point is not to buy everything at once. It is to choose a next step that your teams can actually use.

King V and related governance expectations also point in this direction: ethical culture is built through practised behaviour, not policy language alone. A practical training pathway is one of the more concrete ways to show that commitment.

One partner, a clear next conversation

Impilo’s programmes are culturally grounded, trauma-informed and designed for South African workplace realities. They focus on usable skills rather than fear-based messaging.

Every investment in these programmes strengthens workplace capability while directly supporting Impilo’s work protecting vulnerable children and strengthening families in all communities.

If you have been circling the decision, you do not need a perfect five-year plan. You need a next step that fits the next 30 to 90 days: book a workshop pilot, request an eLearning demo, or schedule a discovery conversation. Academy early-interest requests are welcome too; they simply sit on a different timeline.

Safer, stronger teams are built by choosing a pathway and beginning.

Which pathway would be the most useful first step for your organisation this quarter; a workshop pilot, eLearning, or a discovery conversation? I’d love to hear how you are thinking about it.
